WHAT IS THE TOPDOG FIT TRAIL?

Get your sneakers ready!! The Wilson School District is pleased to announce the Top Dog FitTrail - a walking/running/hiking trail in the scenic grounds of the Green Valley and Wilson West Campus.

The FitTrail is a two-mile series of trails winding through the woods, around a pond, across wetlands, along a creek as well as on the paved paths around both of the buildings on our campus.  Coming soon we will be combining QR fitness stations with walking or jogging, this loop can provide a well-balanced physical fitness routine for the entire body. Each QR code will direct you to four different exercises from which you may choose to increase your core strength, upper body strength, lower body strength, and/or flexibility.

The FitTrail will consist of multiple loops of various distances and terrains.

The Fitness Trail serves as a recreational resource for walkers, runners, skiers, snowshoers, and anyone interested in birdwatching or wildlife observation.

Our fitness trail was created by Mrs. Kristen Hook (West Health and PE) who worked in conjunction with Mr. Javius Galan (West Teacher and Nature Enthusiast) to create not only a fun place to work out, but also a place to educate our students and community members about the natural habitats which encompass our beautiful campus.

Fitness Goal

At the current time the Green Valley and West campus has the potential to create a vibrant and fun area that would provide local children and residents with a place to play, exercise and socialize.

The resulting improvements to our campus would further strengthen the sense of pride in the local area while at the same time deliver improved opportunities to develop physical fitness skills and provide a valuable resource for all members of the community to partake in regular exercise.

Nature Goal

At present, a high percentage or majority of the wetlands behind Green Valley and West Middle School are overpopulated with invasive Bradford Pear Trees native to China and Vietnam. Our goal is to remove all invasive species and reestablish native plants, shrubs and trees which will improve food and shelter which directly benefit local wildlife.

These areas function in a limited manner and require long term maintenance. The introduction of native plant species within the area allow it to function for its intended purpose more efficiently. Efficiency gains are in the form of improved bio filtering of storm water runoff and the reduced carbon footprint (lower maintenance costs) required to manage the area.
